HLC Chats With... Christine Powers!

Christine (O'Shea) Powers is a Boston native now living on the South Shore in Braintree with her husband of 23 years, Tom Powers and Fur Baby, Austin Powers. She is a retail buyer by day and by night is a fitness instructor (4 nights a week) with many hobbies. She enjoys travelling (starting the new year in England, in April she will be hiking in Utah, and will fit a trip to Ireland to see her family over there.) Having a work life balance is incredibly important to her and also making time to sleep as she is always on the go.

(HLC): Do you have a nickname? How did you get it?

(CP): No, not really. Sometimes Tine or Chris.

(HLC): What is your favorite childhood memory?

(CP): Sitting under the chestnut tree at our house with my grandfather. Cooking with my Grandmother. Sitting on my dads lap while he played his harmonica or accordion.

(HLC): Camp HLC is one of our wonderful programs. Have you ever attended summer camp? If yes, what was your favorite memory about camp?

(CP): Yes, I have attended the Massachusetts Camp and was impressed with how although the children were from vast backgrounds, they adapted to each other like long lost friends.

(HLC): Who is your favorite musician?

(CP): I have so many, I am truly a concert junkie. Especially 80's and Irish music. I have seen Huey Lewis over 40 times..!

(HLC): Do you have a pet companion? If so, please share his/her name and what you love most about him/her.

(CP): My husband and I have a 9 year old Bichon Frise who we have named Austin Powers.. (get it!!??) He is super cool and has his own wardrobe and can wave and give you a fist bump. He is a joy to us all.

(HLC): People would be surprised to know that...  (cool fact about you!)

(CP): I worked for a radio station in high school and college and had some very cool moments. I was in an Aerosmith video and a paid extra for "Ted 2" the movie (both crowd scenes... so you can't really see me unless I am pointing it out!) I also run an international book club with some amazing members.

(HLC): What is one thing you can share with others about resilience and adversity?

(CP): I lost over 75 pounds and decided to create a group activity page on social media to inspire and help others. I have become a fitness instructor to keep myself and others moving in the right direction with their weight loss goals.

(HLC): What's your go to person, book, or movie for inspiration?

(CP): Music inspires me. Also, my faith and my friends.

(HLC): If you have a go to resource (website, blog, etc...) that you think would help others, please share it!

(CP): For a laugh or a smile visit Austin Powers- he has his own page on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/theAustinPowers/

Feel free to follow me on my social media handles https://www.facebook.com/christine.o.powershttps://www.instagram.com/christinehassuperpowershttps://www.facebook.com/groups/1487622911560781/ (this is the fitness/inspirational group page).

(HLC): Share something that you want others to know about ALS...

(CP): I wish for a cure to be found in my lifetime. My partnership all started with my book club and collaborating with 2 authors that wrote the Ice Bucket Challenge about Pete Frates. It was Pete's mom, Nancy Frates, who connected me with Hope Loves Company and our club is now blessed to host a wonderful annual fundraiser to help the Massachusetts Camp

Thank you Christine for participating in HLC Chats With and for supporting Hope Loves Company's mission to #EndALS!
